Open Source SCORM 2004
open source both ways
Two projects I am following with interest -- both seem to be open source SCORM 2004 learning delivery systems:
- SharePoint Learning Kit is a certified SCORM 2004 compliant system that is based on Microsoft's Sharepoint 3.0 server and SQL. The kit itself was developed (mostly?) by Microsoft engineers but is offered as open source. Sharepoint, SQL Server 2005 and Windows 2003 server on which it is based are Microsoft products though and naturally require purchase (and because of Microsoft's byzantine licensing schemes it is difficult to assess what the cost is)
- Workforce Connections which appears to be a Zope/Plone based SCORM 2004 compliant learning delivery system developed by the United States Department of Labor
I haven't dug too deeply yet into either of this products but the radically different approaches to open source in the same functional area alone make them interesting.
